Question type: Car Customization
What's required to change the 221 motor in my 63
Fairlane 500 to either a 289 or 302 and
approximately how much would it cost.

I would advise that you skip this...too expensive , unless you collect cars?
221 to 289 or 302 is a bolt in swap, same motor mounts, same trans bolt pattern for 65 and earlier. After 65, motors won't fit pre-65 trans bolt pattern. There are places online to sell mounts if you find yours are not fitting. 221s are same size as 289s and 302s. TBH I prefer stock cars with original motors, if you want more power build your 221.

Thanks...it is an all original numbers matching car with 68,000 original miles on...i think building up the 221 might be the best option as you suggest. Will upgrade the master cylinder from single to dual though for safety
