Can i take an 4.6 engine out old a 97 Lincoln town car and put it in a 03 ford explorer. If so will I need to change anything or will it bolt right up.

The physical engine will fit,but the intake and other systems will have to be swapped over, the "97" uses a coil pack ignition whereas the "03" uses individual plug coils.

The 4.6 V8 was available for the explorer. I suspect you may have some PCM issues with a simple swapout. There is a good chance you are going to have to have the PCM updated for the larger engine.

I'm under the understanding you may have a 4.0 at this point. If you do, check and make sure a different tranny was not used in the V8 model.
