I've seen a couple Raiders (online) modified, one with a Chevrolet 4.3L V6 and one with a Chevrolet Small Block. Both were equipped with 700R4 (automatic) transmissions. Realistically, you could fit any engine and transmission in the truck that you want, depending on your skill level, time and money. But why would you want to change out the 3.0L? It's a great engine...
Because it falls apart like the rest of mistsubishi motors. The four cylinder blows head gaskets, the six cylinder developed rod knock. It's common knowledge.
The motors are pretty much garbage. Drive train and chassis are great. Tracking down replacements are even harder. I wouldn't recommend this vehicle for beginners. If you are willing to work, it is and outstanding platform to start with.

Dale, did you ever find out if there is another engine that is, say plug and play? To replace the crappy 3.0 Mitsubishi. It is not supposed to be an interference engine but I sure gear the piston besting the crap out of the valves when I adjust the timing. So I need to scrap and start over. Truck is great but engine is crap.
im going to put 4.0 jeep cherokee w/ carburator in my raider 1989, what do you suggest
