Why my 2008 mazda 6 sedan will turn over but wont crank

Missing fuses had a slight smell of gas
trunk release works only when hooked up to
another car battery

In all honesty, easiest things to do are replace the fuses - they're the cheapest start. Worst case - clean your connections and invest in a new battery. You're driving an 08, and the typical life for a car battery is 4-5 years. I think it's about that time to replace (without knowing any more details)
