Transmission leaks

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We just replaced all the seals in our 1963 Falcon 2 Speed transmission and it is still leaking badly. It appears to be flinging off the torque converter and is also dripping onto the pavement.
Has anyone had experience with leaks from the torque converter housing? I have heard that some had bad welds.

You could fix the leak by installing a new gasket, but, you probably need a transmission overhaul and new torque converter. Is your car in pristine condition or do you just have this old car for emotional reasons? Falcons are known for having weak front ends and were not considered great cars, sorry.

Pretty basic machinery, and a cool car, too- this should be easy to diagnose and repair because it is not hard to pull the tranny- are you sure you replaced those seals properly?

All sealing gaskets are new and were replaced by an experienced transmission service person. There is no wear groove visible in the torque converter, although the leak appears to have gotten significantly worse in an 8+ mile drive.

new front seal might have been dinged putting the converter in..you said all the seals, what about the pump to case rasket ??? also the case could be cracked.

It turned out that the front bushing was worn, which allowed increasing movement in the front pump seal.
