Temp gage, service engine soon

Asked by Boobiedoo Jun 25, 2016 at 04:58 PM about the 2003 Ford Mustang

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First the air conditioner started blowing hot and starting whining. Then the service
engine soon light came on and the temp gage jumped to hot. I let it cool down and
there is coolant in the radiator and reserve. What could it be?

Turn off the ac and see if it still overheats (Don't let it get too hot) If u notice temperature to start rising turn it off and let it cool. Remove radiator cap, start it up again and see if there's water circulation in radiator after it has reached operating temperature. This will determine if your water pump is working and thermostat opening up

The thermostat is not opening up. Can that cause the problem with the air conditioner blowing hot for a while and the cold air?
