74 Ranchero stuck shifter

Shifter stuck in Park, disconnected cable from tranny, tranny shifts, think problem in
steering column, any advise or column diagram to locate problem

don't jump to the worst thing posiblle advice changed fluid lately or vacuum leak

Check the igntion switch,it has pin in it,serves as a netural switch,for column shifter.

The igntion has pin in it,which if bad,will hold the shifter in park.here is a pic of shifter,sleve.

I suggest that you block the front tires and jack up the rear, then see if it will shift out of park. I park on a drive and if I don't set the parking brake before I put in in park it locks every time!
