I have a 1955 Ford F100 with a 8 digit vin number. How can I look it up and why is it only 8 digits?

Get ahold of an original Ford shop manual for your truck, it'll break down your VIN as well as a ton of other useful info. Motorhaven or Ebay may help, or post to fordification of ford-trucks is someone has a PDF version. For now, the F100 VINs break down as: F10=F100 (they all begin with F10) then the remaining 8 alphanumeric digits are: 1st) Engine Type, (example V=239 V8), 2nd) Model Year (5=1955 in your case), 3rd) Assembly Plant (example D=Dallas) 4-8) Serial Build Sequence.
