i am thinking of buying a 1970 ford f100 and its really hard to stop (have to
put all my might into it) when i took it for a test drive and i was wondering what
it could be before i buy it

I would budget for a complete brake rebuild. Pads, rotors, drums, wheel cylinders, master cylinder etc. Not to hard to do yourself if you are handy.

ok thanks but out of curiosity could it be the brake booster because it felt like there was no brake assist at all

It could be a lot of things. Worn out brakes is my guess.

There is a power brake booster on this and that is going to be your problem. The brake booster is bad. Classic symptom when you literally have to stand on the breaks. There about $110.
