besides the distributor itself, rebuilt the carb, new fuel tank, new fuel pump.
idles well, revs up fine in park and neutral. but when i drive it from a stop if i
give it more than slight throttle it starts to die, once past 15 mph runs and drives

One of Two things come to mind, check to make sure the accelerator pump in the carb is working, with the engine off look down the throat of the carb then pump the throttle, you should see Two solid streams of fuel shooting out, if OK advance the ignition timing, the timing marks on the balancer may be off, so you might try doing it by ear advance the timing until it just pings under load then back off 4 degrees
Sounds like stumbles on acceleration Carb is clean no water in the gas detach fuel line: put a big towel and fuel should shoot out when you crank the motor. But make sure no air leak. at the back of the carb is a huge hole for PCV attachment often left open by accident. A hissing sound. Accelerator pump is with the carb kit a plunger yes replace it. Air leak is so common with all the tubes.
