I have a 302cu engine in my truck I am the 2nd owner it has over 100,000mls. I replaced everything under the hood and replaced the points with pentritox ignition. One day it would not start it flooded
I replaced the plugs replaced both gas filters go to
start it and it floods again. So I decided to rebuild
the 2bbl carburetor. The engine takes along time to
start once running cold or warm if I lower the idle to
650 700 it will still run fine. But after 5min you hear
a pop at first I thought it came from the carburetor
but I swear it comes from the distributor. When it
happens I try and Rev the engine and it just has no
power even advancing the timing it almost comes
back to life. But then dies and back to getting it to
start again the choke works fine. It starts like a old
propeller plane. I am at a loss and embarrassed at
this problem I went to trade school been building
and racing cars since 16 I am 50 now worked for
mostly ford dealerships. I even worked for the FBI
as their head automotive tech and here I am
looking like a lost sheep. The distributor is the
original I pulled it out the gear is fine really no wear
not a lot of play. One time I ran the engine with the
vacuum advance canister disconnected and
plugged and it still did the same. Help me please
