1979 F-100 rear bumper replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am attempting to replace an aftermarket rear step bumper with an original equipment chrome bumper.  In attempting to order I am asked the distance between the center mount holes ( 361/2or 40" ).  As I do not have a bumper; I cannot say for sure.  The distance between the frame rails is 38".  Anyone with any insight on this situation?  This is a short styleside bed.  if someone has such a vehicle, I would greatly appreciate their input.  Thanks. Kygent.

eather bumper will fit,get the one you want,at least 2 holes will line up on each side, maybe all 4 ,if not you can just drill the 2 other bolt holes.
