Engine speed at startup

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Installed new distributor and rebuilt carburator and when i start the car, the
engine runs well over 3000 RPM. What is causing this? What are possible
solutions?

Check the ignition timing, vacuum leaks and the idle speed setting on the carb.
