Fiat Spider clutch shudder

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a '77 Fiat Spider that develops a "shudder" in first gear after it is driven several
miles.  It takes off smoothly in first gear at first, and is fine in every other gear, but begins
to shudder from a stop in first after several miles.  It has a two year old clutch and recently
resurfaced flywheel.  Any ideas what is causing the problem?

It is possible that you have a weak transmission mount or engine mount. When the car sits for awhile, the mounts cool and stiffen backup, but when it starts to be driven it is stressed and becomes soft.
