what ECM compatible with the 06 CTS because I have a new one but the numbers don't match but it's identical as far as shape and size the plug matches...etc.

I would make sure you have the correct part number ECM, then it still needs to be programmed. The ECM must be programmed to mate with the anti-theft system, copy of the VIN, as well as data pertaining to the engine, transmission, gear ratio and such for your specific car. If you plan to take it to a shop or the dealer for the programming, I'm sure they'll let you know if you have the correct one.

Google "Reprogramming ECM" (or PCM or ECU) to get an idea what is involved, some places that sell them online will program them for you, just have to give them the mileage and VIN then you're all set. Buying a used one out of another vehicle however requires reprogramming.
