The engine will swap. Do some checking first. The 4.0 SOHC engine went through at least six revisions during its lifetime. Internal parts from one generation will not necessarily work in succeeding engines. Make sure the 2002 engine is of the same generation. You can check on the Motorcraft Web page under remanufacturered engines. They will list the years covered by a particular engine generation.
