I'm considering buying a 2003 seville.  What is reliability rating?  Is it expensive to maintain?  How good of mpg?

i had my 2001 cadillac seville sls for one year now(the one in the picture).. i bought it used with 53000 miles on it in good condition.. so far no major problems but there is a head gasket issue with these northstar engines after 120000 or so miles... also my car eats about a quart of oil every 2 months which they say these engines were designed to do.. there is also an AIR pump for emission reasons that can cause a check engine light to come up.. this AIR pump was a bad idea because the moisture in the air, and the location of the inlet tube which sucks in rain water causes the electric motor to short out causing the check engine light.. but if the check engine light doersn't bother you then nevermind what i just said.. right now i'm getting about 21mpg highway and probably 17mpg city.. besides the oil problem on this car the rest of it is really not to pricey to maintain.. as long as you change oil when your supposed to it runs great.. overall the reliability rating out of 10 being the best would be a 9.. i never got stranded in this car... for winter the car does real well with the traction and stability control to correct you when roads are bad.. i hope this helps you out onyour decision

Thanks Cody. Nice looking car. The one I'm looking at has about 71,000 miles on it and is a 2003 seville. It's pretty. Kelly

I'd recommend it, Kelly! They're affordable, dependable, sharp, and subdued (for a Cadillac). You'll be getting the most refined of the old front-wheel drive Sevilles, too, as that's the year they stopped making them, I think! I have a 1998 SLS I purchased in 2007 with 50,000 miles. She's currently at 93,000, and I haven't had any major problems. Like Cody's, mine eats about a quart of oil in between changes. And if you do a lot of highway travel, I'd imagine you can get 24-25 mpg highway. I routinely get 28 when I'm on the interstate, going the speed limit, and if I'm on country roads in the valleys on longer trips, I've gotten 30-32 mpg -- seriously! These cars are gas hogs, but only if you aren't careful -- they can be VERY economical rides, too! And I have no qualms about going out in the snow with her, either. She goes ANYWHERE (on the road) unless the snow's over a foot deep. But in moderately snowy roads, she's great. The traction control gets you going, the stability system keeps you pointed in the right direction and the ABS helps you get stopped. I had to travel in freezing rain one day, and where pickup trucks were over in ditches, I cruised through slowly and effortlessly. You could do much worse than a Seville! Best of luck!

yeah its possible to get 28 driving on highways a lot but i tend to drive 5 over a lot haha.. its not a real fast car but for me its torqey enough to make me not drive right on the speed limit haha.. kinda hard with 275 horse under your foot!

My wife has owned her car for 4 years. We bought it with 79000 miles on it and it has 123000 on it now. It drives excellent. And it looks just like it did when we bought it. Very classy car with a lot of power and very comfortable. Love the heated seats in the winter! lol

OTHER THAN THE GASKET PROBLEM ($3500. TO FIX) THE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH AND A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTOR, BATTERIES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND UNDER THE BACK SEAT. I HAVE 152,000 MILES ON MY 99 SLS AND AVERAGE AROUND 16 MPG. THE SLS IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR. I FEEL THAT WHATEVER MONEY I'VE HAD TO PUT INTO THE CAR IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT. I DRIVE CADILLACS. THEY AREN'T CHEAP. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING CHEAP BUY A FORD. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN SOMEONE BUYING ONE OF THESE CARS THAT HAVN'T BEEN TAKEN CARE OF, THEN THEY CAN GET REAL EXPENSIVE, REAL FAST.
