If it is more of a "clicking" sound that displays itself routinely in a left hand turn, your C/V (Constant Velocity) joint on the right side is bad.
This is an axle that has universal joints covered with a rubber dust shield. The dust shield keeps the lubricant in the universal joints. Over time, the boot fails and allows the lubricant to escape. The universal joint becomes dry, contaminated and begins to wear out. The clicking will be faint initially and get louder as the joint detertioates. Eventually, it will completely fail and come apart which will leave you stranded.
Options: You can rebuild or replace the entire half shaft. Replace the entire shaft, it's not that big of a deal and cheaper. Most garages can do this job for about $100-200.00; if you're mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself for about $75.00 to $100.00.
But do something about it now because it's on the verge of failure. Sometimes, you can actually lose your steering when they break and the broken shaft can create more damage when the car is in motion before getting it stopped. BE CAREFUL!
