My chrysler 300 just shut off and engine light came
on. But it started back up and took off what does
that mean? And I'm not able to get to a mechanic
right away

It means you need to have the trouble codes read. I would not be driving it far as you may be stranded!

Autozone, Advances auto parts, O'Rielly's, or any other decent auto parts store will read your OBD for free and tell you what's wrong with the car. I'd be doing that as quick as you can.
