My car will start but turns off when put into gear

Asked by Jesse Apr 03, 2017 at 03:00 PM about the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car takes 1-2 tries to start but dies
immediately after putting it in gear.  When
the car first starts the RPM's will rev up
and down a bit, when it shuts off the
engine doesn't chug, just shuts off as if I
took the key out . I just put in a new
battery, PCV valve, PCV hose, and as well
had my fuel pump replaced. I also am
hearing a clicking sound coming from what
appears to be my alternator or something
in that area. I was told it might be the
bearing in my alternator but I thought I'd
see what you guys have to say first, thanks
for any help

When the car is running it also sounds louder as if it were a deisel but is only a 4 cylinder
