How do you get the cv joint off the axle on a 82 vw pickup?

Asked by diesel22 Aug 14, 2014 at 07:29 PM about the 1982 Volkswagen Caddy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The manual says remove circlip though an opening in the bearing race. There is no
opening in my bearing race so I can't see the circlip.

It's a real bear getting that off...you basically have to clean the joint of ALL grease and dirt to see into the tiny area to get the snap-ring pliers in to compress the ring and beat the joint of the axle. I ALWAYS recommend getting remanufactured axle assemblies...saves time, blood and sweat, and usually money.
