Single mom

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I'm new to this. I'm a single mom just bought my first
classic. It has the original 389 engine in it. It ran before but
now it isn't. Can you give me some insight on just to get it
running? I'm not looking to do the major overhaul to the
engine but just what it needs to crank and drive for now.
Can you guys help

being that its a 1960 it would be using a carburetor which tends to simplify things these old engines need only 3 things to start, 1# fuel 2# compression 3# spark. first off you need to know if you are getting fuel. if your not getting any you may need a new fuel pump, there could be leak in the fuel line or your fuel filter is plugged. a quick and easy way to check for compression and spark is to take the air filter off and spray some starter fluid in (no more than a half second.) then fun to the driver seat and turn the engine over, if it starts for a second then its pretty sure its not the spark or compression. love to hear back from you. best of luck!
