1978 Porsche 928 Turbo (?)
I was driving down the highway and noticed a car with a for sale sign in the middle
of a town that had a population of 145 people. Granted, the car didn't look
impressive, but I knew instantly it was a Porsche by the body line.
I drive up closer and it's a blue-green 1978 Porsche 928 "Shark", with a back
spoiler. It didn't say much, but I believe it was a turbo. He has it for sale at about
10,000$, the cost of the owner's daughter's tuition for college. It looks a little
rough, but certainly drivable and in good condition.
I live in western Nebraska, and have only seen 2 Porsche vehicles up close in my
life, including this one. It's terrible, I know. I'm a high school senior with a passion
for old cars, and I think since I saw that car, I've fallen in love. I did some research
and it's hard to find information.
Right now I drive a 1998 Ford Mustang with the 3.8L V6, with about 150 HP and a
top speed of 115 (I've only personally had it reach 107, but given a longer stretch
of road I could pull 115 I'm sure) Nothing special, we bought it for 3500.
Recently it's had some hail damage, and the insurance will have it fixed and
hopefully with a new paint job, and we figure it will be worth about 4000$ at most
if we can find someone to sell it to. I have another 1000$ I can put to a new car if I
want.
The problem is price, he gives 10,000 or best offer. He HAS to sell it, so I can talk
him down, but I'm not sure where I could find the other 5000$ for the car before it's
too late. But if this car is really this rare and valuable, it might be a good
investment. I don't know for sure however, that's why I'm here.
What's tempting me is that this car seems to be so HARD TO FIND. I can hardly find
any other similar to know if that's a good price or not. But where I live, there are 4
Mid-90s Mustangs within 200 feet. Uniqueness is more important to me than
anything. But is this car worth it?
Should I go back and get more information, or is it not a good idea? Should I nab
this up before someone else who knows how good of a deal it is steals it? Or
should I leave it?
