I have put in 4 fuel pumps in my 2000 sebring convertible in 4 months. I am the original owner, and the problem began at 65,000 miles-they were all chrysler original parts-any help appreciated

Hi luvsnj! That's just not right and Chrysler should be working with you on this one. What is the nature of the pump failures. The thing that comes to mind is that there might be something sitting in the bottom of the tank that is shredding them, but I assume you have drained and flushed the tank. Does you local Service Manager have a take on this one?
dealer contacted Chrysler and other dealers, and has no answer. Tank was dropped and checked, all electrical connections, voltage and computer checked for spikes-nothing.

There was a recall issued in November 2006 for TWO manufacturers of aftermarket fuel pumps used in the 1998 models which have found that the rubber in the pumps can expand and cause the pump to fail. I suggest you contact the dealer and see if those parts were also used as replacements for the 2000 model year convertibles.
It most likely is not the fuel pump. I had a very similar issue. At 85k miles the distribitor fails and a new replacement fixes the issue. So dont spend alot of time and money on that till you make sure its not that FIRST! I was with out my car for 2 months and many many parts, for a one day fix. I am very surprised the dealer has not mentioned that bit of "nice to know information" cause they knew it the minute I told them how many miles I had on my car.
The dealer mentioned the possibility of the distributor. Since I reported this to Car Gurus,, they have replaced their fuel pump, advised they do not use the aftermarket parts recalled, the oxygen sensors failed and were replaced, they put in a redundant ground for the pump, and found a short in the wiring harness. They have done all of this at no charge to me, so I think they are trying their best to solve the problem and stand behind the vehicle. Thanks for your info-I will definitely keep this in mind.
