How much should I pay for a 1984 Jeep CJ7

The CJs and Wranglers are expensive- because everybody wants one- I don't think they are worth it unless you really need one to go off-road or on gravel roads- or you really want to pay the premium to look cool in town- depending on the condition, you will have to pay at least $5000- for a 35 year old car!!!!!

Checking both NADA and Kelly Blue Book for prices is a good starting point but a prudent offer should be based on several other considerations such as: Vehicle's history, maintenance records, cost of operation, condition of vehicle mechanically and cosmetically including owner's manual & both sets of keys, true market value (what others in your area paid for a similar vehicle), and finally what this vehicle is worth to you - a personal evaluation with all other factors being considered.

I paid $1900 for my 85 CJ7, 2.5 4 cylinder 4 speed about a year and a half ago. Been a daily driver ever since. Not mint but a solid runner.

Jeeps are amazing, just not appreciated by people with soft hands. If you are concerned with road noise or back up cameras these are not for you. If you love manual transmissions, wind up your shorts and driving barefoot there really is no other. They hold their value so whatever you pay you will end up selling it for more... just beware, you will become addicted and voluntarily spend a ton making minor adjustments and upgrades to get your baby birthday presents and treats. You can spend a few thousand if you want a project or $30,000+ if you want a restored classic. There are plenty of very nicely used CJs in the $10-15,000 range.
