Whats the best and cheapest way to get more horse out of a 2001 mustang v6?

you will see the biggest initial gains with intake and exhaust, then get a tune. a proper cold air intake and a tune nets up to 30hp, and with headers and a full exhaust could be another 20-30.
You might see 15-20 horses with a full exhaust, CAI and a tune. If you want full-on more power, for cheap (initallly) go nitrous. Colder plugs and higher octane gas. And stay below 75 HP jets on stock internals. And go with a "wet" kit.
after you've done what has already been said (other than nitrous) you can get your heads ported & polished, milled and a three angle valve job.
Its very simple if you want more power, then all you gotta do is junk that shit pot ford engine and throw in a beautiful chevrolet engine, everybody knows that, so stop waisting your time and money...you could always just get a turbocharger off ebay and with a lil work throw that in there and get alot more power aswell. Look on youtube at cars that have the turbo swap already and decide for yourself.
um chevy motor no. turbo yes.
or if you know ppl then u can get yourself a 4.6 motor
yeah he could swap in the motor from your 85 camaro, buut then it'd be slower.......
If you have big plans for it, throw an 8.8 rear end in and put some 3.73 gears in it if you plan on driving it a lot. That will wake the car up for not much cash. Then go to RPMoutlet.com and start clicking, you will out run GT's in no time!
Why on earth would you want to modify an 01' V6 Mustang? The motor is crap, they only have that motor as an option for people who are NOT performance oriented and just like the look of the mustang and want decent gas milage, thats a secretary's car. Sell it and buy a GT that will run high 13 bone stock. And for the guy who said start clicking and you'll be out running GT's in no time, You'd have to spend alot of money to get that car in the 13's. I've owned 8 Mustang GT's or LX 5.0's and every one of them I've gottten them to run high 13 to mid 13 (05-09's) with drag radials, power shifting, timing adjustment, and a K&N filter. You're just wasting your time and money with that V6, every manufature will have a V6 in their Pony car lineup, but no one in their right mind buys one if they want to go fast. A stock V6 runs 16's in the 1/4, don't embarress yourself by modifying a V6 just to keep up with a stock GT when, you'll just get laughed at. You can put a single turbo on a GT and run 10's, I know, I've done it.
Cheap and best are at two different ends af the performance scale. "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go." With that said i know some have made there own cold air intake kits. Local exhaust shops can weld in new mufflers and bigger piping. Advancing your timing nd running 93 octane will help a bit. Flushing the carbon out of your engine with Sea Foam Deep Creep along with a good tune up will net some gains. But all together you should face facts. It is a V6 in a heavy car. If you are on a tight budget save your money and worry about being fast later when you have more spare money to spent. Possibly on a stronger engine platform like a GT or Cobra

To the Chevy guys , I say you need to worry about GM still being around and stop knocking the vastly superior Ford products . Now , onto upgrading a V-6 , you can start off small by upgrading the air intake. Start by installing a better flowing air filter , and look at installing a better flowing air inlet tube with less restrictions then the stock one . You might want to upgrade the exhaust to improve throttle response. Another way would be by upgrading the computer software with a mod chip that piggybacks on the original computer , or have the computer re-flashed with performance software .
HAY,that wont a nice thing to post.Cold Air Induction is a good place to start.thing is to get more power out of a V6 is to go inside it.but you can put under size pullys on it,will turn up quicker, chip the computer.
I had one and I put dual exhaust, the proper intake and pipe, and a chip. Those ran me around $1000. My friend races at the track and owns a shop in lake havasu and he said if I switch the rear end its like nite and day. That will cost about a 1000.
i would do everything what theses people said and i would put on some underdrive pulleys i got a 02 mustang gt and i noticed a difference when i put mine on just sayin
ok not to join in on the ford smashing but even hollywoode knows that GM wrecks ford...like in the movie Drive...Ford trrying to get away from that 300C? the Chrysler was ramming the fords ass the whole time(because fords cant do crap in a race against a HEMI even Ford techs will tell u that lol)....Chrysler crashed cause the driver was retarded
