Why won't my speedometer work on my 1990 gmc z71 with 5 speed transmission

On my 1995 Silverado there is no cable, the gauge cluster will just pull out from the plugins. There is a fuse for this also, but so I am not sure what you have on the 1990 manual trany. Otherwise check out the answers above...
