Affect towing a trailer has on mileage

Asked by looknlisten Sep 28, 2010 at 03:46 PM about the 1997 GMC Sierra C/K 1500

Question type: General

I have a 5.7 Liter V8 Gas Engine, 2WD, 4 SPD Electronic Trans, Hvy Duty Trailering Equip. and I am thinking of buying a 22ft Travel Trailer with a GVW of around 5,000 lbs. What could I expect in average mileage assuming normal driving? I know there are many factors that could influence the answer but I'm just looking for a ballpark answer. I've been told anywhere from 6 mpg to 12 mpg on the freeway at 55 mph.

2,305

I have a 2008 Sierra 4X4 with a 5.3l gas engine with a Banks CAI and a GM Performance exhaust system and tow a TT with a dry weight of 7000# and keeping around 60MPH I range from 8-11 MPG depending on the trip. Driving from NJ to TN crossing the mountains was around 8, while flat road trips more around 11.
