The fan motor resistor may be going bad, or the plug connection could be iffy, or there MIGHT be leaves built up in the cavity causing a problem. The resistor mounts through the engine side of the heater box, with a good sized cavity for it, itself may be easily removed, (but you MAY have to take the fender liner off to get to it on some models). ALWAYS be SURE to look inside the cavity for any debris. (The leaf buildup thing happened to me in a 1986, but Ford being Ford may not have changed the air intake by 2001 to include an effective screen. Those leaves started on fire in miine filling the interior with smoke while I was driving.)
i REPLACED FUSES AND RESISTOR AND STILL THE BLOWER WORK INTERMITTENTLY. ANY IDEAS?

I hadn't thought to ask this before, but do KNOW if you you have a climate control a/c system in your vehicle? That type ususlly has a sliding ir rotary temperature selection switch. On some Ford models this type of control is used with a system that automatically maintains a set temperature IN ADDITION TO having 3 or 4 speeds for the fan. My Crown Vic has this type, and there is a temperature sensor mounted inside the dash that determines when its warm or cold enough to turn the fan on or off depending on what temp the temp slide switch is set to.

I was advised by the dealership that they are experiencing compressors freezing up and Ford will not honor the warranty. Ford advises to turn the recycle air button on and turn off the ac to resolve the issue.
