Wipers, windows, heater and radio stopped while driving

Asked by Smilingduo Mar 29, 2017 at 06:51 AM about the 2002 Dodge Caravan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wipers and radio quit working as I was driving.
After a coworker checked it out he saI'd the "key
start" is sending a signal to the start relay saying
it's in the start position. When he pulled out the
starter relay they all kicked on. When he replaced it
they stopped. They worked without the start relay
in for another 10 miles and quit again. It's kicking
off the radio, heater, wipers and electric windows.
Then after about 40 miles they all came on again
but only for about 1/2 mile and shut down again.
Apparently when the key is in the start position
everything shuts down till the van starts?  What
exactly is the key start and how do I replace it.

The ignition key itself may not be releasing all the way back from the start position with the key. When this happens again, try to just slightly turn the key back, but not enough to turn off the engine. See if that works.
