Slipping in first gear

Asked by pamlill Aug 29, 2019 at 06:17 PM about the 2001 Ford Taurus

Question type: General

My Ford Taurus slips when I first take off going into
first gear. No problems after that unless I ship at a
light and then accelerate again. Once past first
gear, no problem.
I did notice too when first start car and put into
gear its on fast idle, takes off on its own.
Ideas??

Are you low on transmission fluid? Sometimes that is an issue. How old is the fluid? You also might be in need of a rebuild if you have a lot of mile on it.
