Confused

Asked by Jensel76 Jun 17, 2016 at 11:05 AM about the 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 dodge intrepid and I have
had problems with it just shutting down on
me. I live in AZ and it only happens when
the temp outside is at least a 100 but that
happens a lot here. The engine light will
begin to flash and than the RPM's will start
dropping and apply gas doesn't help much
or for long and will stall completely out. It
will restart but won't stay running. If I leave
it for 2 to 3 hours it will start right up and
go??? It has happen 2 times last summer
and 2 times this summer. Runs like a
champ when it's cold.

Your vehicle is going into safe mode so no further damage could be done to the transmission or engine it needs to be seen by a professional Mechanic

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to diagnose just by stating something in this case. You could change out more parts and use more money than just having it diagnosed. Or possibly you could wait for someone else to hopefully give you a better answer.

I would check the battery connections as a first step in diagnosing the problem. Make sure the battery posts are clean and tight and the cables are in good condition.

Jensel76 just out of curiosity did your service engine light come on? If so go to AutoZone or O'Reilly Auto Parts they will diagnose it for free

Yes it does but only when it happens and it flashes. Thank tho I already thought of that

It should keep the codes, in most cases a good OBD reader can still pull the codes.
