Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1996 dodge dakota will sometimes start
right up and idles around 1000 to 700 rpm
but will start dying down to 300rpm and shut
off. It's been idling at 300 rpm for awhile
and will randomly shut off while I stop at a
stop sign or redlight or my truck will start
puttering and try dying on me while I'm
driving on the highway. I can't figure out
the problem can someone help?

99 dakota RT. Irratic idle, no codes, sometimes speed up sometimes slow & serge. Cleaned the throttle body, full tune. same... Changed the IACV (idle air control valve) motor with an O'reilly, borge warner. It changed, but the same issue. Chased it, changed sensors crank & cam, throttle control, still sam 2months in... Friend bought a 98 same truck. We swapped IACV motors, mine was fixed, his got the issues I had. Bought a IACV motor from Dodge dealer, problem solved. Bad IACV all along. Don't buy a borge warner! $110 at Dodge, $38 at O'Reilly. Wish I'd bought OEM to start with, I'd have saved $250 and hours of labor. Expensive lesson.
