1996 neon- installed a 1999 2.0L SOHC used engine to replace same engine. spark plug and wires- cam sensor-thermostate-timing belt -replaced --injectors cleaned-all engine limits OK....P-0300 code displayed-able to reset light but after 30-40 miles light come back on.Engine runs fine--I have not changed the ECM because before engine was changed there was no trouble with the check engine light..no other codes displayed....any one out there with any ideas?...also 7 sensors -5 ready at code reset....2 not ready....check engine light out (for 40 or so miles)..in this configeration ..will this pass an emission test?

i'd trace your egr and vaccum lines. the egr is prolly not working correctly or you have a pinched/unhooked line somewhere.

Thank you dirty boy....do you or anyone out there know if at check engine light reset with 5 of the 7 sensors showing ready and the other 2 showing waiting will this car pass a standard emmissions check in this configuration? I live in Georgia...

we pay 35 bucks for an e-test here. if its cheap there as well, just take a chance and try it. typical e test tricks that apparently work are, higher octane fuel, bring it in hot, new plugs and wires fresh that day etc etc. i'd say just try and go from there.

Ok...on this subject...it turns out that the plroblem with the check engine light was the crank sensor....even though the engine was running well ...the crank sensor was causing a 0300 code.... after a while the engine would not run...it would just shut off...it was than the it was throwing out crank sensor codes...changed it and no more trouble.
