2000 Ford Taurus doesn't start up immediately

Asked by rcantb Nov 17, 2014 at 01:58 PM about the 2000 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 taurus and every time I try to start it, the car needs to crank for about 30
seconds to a minute before actually starting. To date, it has always started, but I'm
worried that at the worst time it will decide not to start up. I took it to a mechanic and he
said he had no idea, and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this or has any
possible solutions. Thanks in advance!

Do you have your foot on gas? if so you are opening the throttle body and not letting it choke cold or get proper mix from ECU warm It's designed to be started w/o touching pedal. If that's not the case that you do, maybe try instead of cranking just turn key on for 30 seconds first. See what happens
