the car will crank over but
doesn't fire

To "fire", your car needs air, fuel, and a spark to ignite each cylinder. You need to determine which piece it is missing and then maybe we can help you get it going again.

check battery, then spark plugs and spark plug wires first.

could it be the ignition pick up coil I had the modular checked and it's working fine

at one time it would start then ud drive shut it off and then it won't start again now it don't do anything

Yes it could be the pick up coil, under the distributor cap, 2 wires run to it, gently pull on each one, the wires usually break. Also by the sounds of it, check the rotor by taking it off and look on the underneath side of it in the center, the rotor usually will burn threw to ground, you will see a burnt spot.
