1989 Galant/2000 gtx electrical problems.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just got it not running. It stopped running on the previous owner and the alternator was
replaced, every time it was hooked back up the 80a main fusable link blew. Because it is
1989 without AWD this fuse is just for the generator circuit. So if I charge up the battery
with my charger and unhook the alternator it should not blow the fuse and hopefully run if
there was a short in the new alternator. Am I correct in assuming this? If this stops the
fuse from blowing but it still doesnt run do I check sub fusible link box for a short circuit? I
am wondering if when the alternator was replacing the wrong one could have been used.
there is 90a and 75a alternator for it, this one needs the 75a and if it was replaced with the
90a on accident it would blow the 80a fuse every time right? I will check the serial codes
on the alternator in the morning. Any help welcome! This link is where I got most of my
information it loads a little slow.
