How to replace the reverse light switch in a 5-speed

I have a 1996 Geo Prizm base model with a 1.6L engine and 5-speed transmission.
The reverse lights did not work when I purchased the car; I bought a new switch for
the lights. I have never replaced one. I thought the switch might be just below the
actual stick, but it doesn't appear to be there. I am guessing that it might be under
the dash area below the radio. If you have done this repair or just know where the
switch is located, please let me know. Thanks!

here is where the switch is. is the # 2 in the pic. this is from the service manual book. i hope this help you . i dont know if is too late..
