1989 celebrity 2.5 4 cyl wont fire

Open the gas cap door and take off the gas cap. stick your ear over the tube you put the fuel nozzle in to fill the car up with fuel. Have someone turn the ignition key to the run position. The fuel pump should hum for about 2 seconds. If you hear this, the fuel system probably is ok, and check for spark at the sparkplug wire while cranking the engine. If you don't hear the fuel pump hum, the pump may be bad, or the fuel pump relay may be bad.

mine has the code 12 and it means that there is No distributor reference pulse, which means the distributor module or other parts inside isn't working properly helping it get the proper fire. I just replaced the whole distributor because either way it has to come out so I bought a new one that way its all new
