Oil Gauge Spiking

Asked by Xandilunas Dec 07, 2018 at 01:39 PM about the 2005 GMC Envoy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Starting yesterday, my 2005 GMC Envoy warning light to check the oil gauge
started to come on. When I am driving, everything is fine, but when I stop, the
oil gauge starts to vary from the midway point to almost zero. This only
happens sometimes and that is when the warning light comes on. I have
moved from Texas to Colorado a few months ago but this is the first time this
has happened. Also did the same thing when parked for more than a minute. I
know that it is not time to change the oil as I have done it fairly recently. Is this
likely an issue with the gauge?

Make sure it has oil for starters. More than likely it's your oil pressure sensor. On the I6 engine, it's located right above the oil filter. If the sensor has oil on it, it needs to be replaced.
