99 ford ranger xlt Changed every sensor and relay known to man....
Asked by ManaBeltane Sep 18, 2015 at 11:20 PM about the 1999 Ford Ranger
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Truck will start (when it wants to) in the morning or after sitting for a few
minutes. However, in no time at all or 10 miles down the road it looses all
power but motor runs and still has oil pressure for a min or two. I can
sometimes start it right back up and it will run for a few feet to a few miles
again. Fuel system has been changed and all sensors and relays as well.

Heating issue, may be fuel pump,or your PCM going bad.

Fuel pump has been changed and filter as well. If I by-pass a sensor or two and cross my fingers it will crank up and run for a while. (5ft to 15miles) PCM and Knock sensor changed. Reset the fuel cut off as well. Just about as frustrated as this guy in this feed..... http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t1435_ds645992
Is the symptom: loss of power, intermittent ? but still runs? Your description tells me you need help finding out whether its engine management, ignition, or fuel. Ask a Ford tech for a road test, try to define the concern. I used to get sent on road tests like this all the time. If we could help quick I would. If they had no money, I would let them go replace every part one by one. PCM's do not have any failure rate for this application but fuel ? yes, sensors and ignition after 15 years? sure. Define the problem better with a tech is my suggestion.
Tell pertinent info, like what engine, how many tanks, 4x4? clutch or auto? see how many decisions your tech will make without discussion in the first two minutes? I f he experiences it, he can tell you something at least. Then recommend testing. you are messing with engine management sensors and replacing the computer but havent said what code or codes it even has. Or said its options and equipment, build date, fuel parts in use, etc. Let someone try to drive it.

Several Mechanics have looked at and have driven it. Honestly, we are all stumped on this one. I will take your advice and see what happens. Will let ya know.
