Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My neon is 2001 plate, petrol 2ltr, the water is exiting through the exhaust i'm told, and C.O. emissions have entered the water supplies. I have be advised the head gasket needs renewing, so how easy is it to perform without having further problems?

As long as you use common sense and follow your service information, follow proper tightening and loosening procedures and torque specs, it isn't extremely difficult.
Firstly thank you very much for your reply, could i just reply by saying; people i have spoken to, have followed such procedures and ran into more complications on other vechicles, and end of transfer was unsuccessful. Have you changed a head gasket for a neon, at this age yourself, and if so do you consider it to be easier than other head gaskets?
I haven't worked on a Neon specifically, but I recently rebuilt the engine in my truck, including replacing the head gaskets. Just keep track of how everything goes together and make sure parts such as rocker arms and spark plug wires don't get mixed up and you shouldn't have any major problems.
Id be more worried about making sure the timing is correct than if i had the rockers on in the correct location. Furthermore, when replacing the head gasket on a 2.0L SOHC neon, you dont have to remove drivetrain parts.
thanks for your reply, the timings are one of my main concerns, do you know how to check the timings so as not to cause further problems?
Just make sure you are aware of where your timing marks are when removing and installing it. Also, follow the repair procedure outlined in a repair manual.
a very important step some ppl miss is having both mating surfaces well cleaned, i highly recommend resurfacing the head at a machine shop to ensure it is true and flat. This will ensure a good seal when you put in your new MLS head gasket. I also suggest you use new head bolts when you reassemble everything. (and yes i have done about 4 HG replacements on neons)
Justin is it true that i will have to remove the whole engine to replace the top gasket
