My driver's side headlight went out. I assumed I could just replace the bulb, but quickly found out that its an entire system that I have to replace. I believe it is a GM part, and not an aftermarket light put on by the previous owners.

I would just head over to your local Autozone or autoparts zone and have them order the part for you. It will be the cheapest and easiest way to get the part.

I'm having the same problem with my 1998 GMC Envoy HID Lights... It's a pain but hang in there be patient and get what you need....

I changed over my "Headlights" with those bright lights- you can order on EBay for #39.99 to $50.00 a pair! They never worked better and made my car look new!
