Question type: Maintenance & Repair
When trying to take off quickly the
tranmission in my 95 gmc sierra z71
slips i let off the gas and it grabs
instantly i reapply the pedal and it
accelerates hard and smooth the rest
of the way threw first and all the other
gears just fine... Is this my torque
converter ? Do i need my
transmission rebuilt? Thanks for any
help!

I would say no to the torque converter since the slip would be felt in all the gears, and would disappear with the torque converter locking up Yours is disappearing when the clutch would be released which is backwards. There is a plate inside the transmission with check balls inside if it. It sounds like that plate is worn and a check ball isn't seating properly. When you let off the gas it starts to shift into second and mashing down on the gas is causing the trans to quickly shift back to first and the sudden flow of trans fluid is forcing that ball to seal properly.
Thank you john is there an additive i can put in to help this or am i looking at major shop repairs? I just bought the truck from a friend and know he just had the transmission rebuilt a few months back
Get it tested at a trans shop first but as far as price goes you could pick up a b&m shift kit for under $50 so I'm sure the stock price for it wouldn't be any more. Its a simple task also, drop the trans pan unbolt the valve body and remove it.
