Asked by Khalid Mar 03, 2017 at 06:09 AM about the 2005 Suzuki Liana

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought a Suzuki 1.6 liana 2005 had a dead battery got a second hand one
everything seemed fine then got home and it totally shut down on me! Next
morning jump started it and managed to get it to a mechanic who said had a
bad alternator bought one from eBay fitted it in but that one wasn't charging
too! So frustrated bought a new one but was told need a new battery so got a
new one the car was on for an hour with lights on and everything and
everything was fine had it for two days went all over with it no check lights the
car seems fine ..
This morning had a chat with a naighbor who thought of checking the
alternator with his avometer and said its not charging!??!
Shocked I went straight back to the mechanic who told me not to worry it
does charge but might not give a reading at the spot???
Is that true?

No that is not true. To keep an eye on this, use a digital multi meter, the charging system should be putting out 13.8 DCV at a minimum, and optimal charging is 14.7 DCV. at the battery when the engine is running. The battery should check no less that 12.5 DCV to optimum DCV of 12.7, indicating a fully charged battery.

you want a good charged battery when you get a new alternator , you may have hurt it charging the second hand battery right off the rip , if those batteries have the pop tops they should probably be replaced but remove the caps and check fluid level and condition , let us know what happens .,
