CAN I PUT A 2003 1.6L 16V ZETEC S GEARBOX IN A 1999 1.6L 16V ZETEC S GHIA?? PLEASE HELP!

i recently bought a 1999 ford focus 1.6 litre 16 valve zetec s ghia, the gearbox needs changing and i have one lined up but its from a 2003 1.6 litre zetec s it looks the same but can i fit it to my car? i dont know if any specs have changed etc? my mechanic said it should fit but i want another opinion! please somebody help!

I'm not sure. If you have them side by side the main things to look at would be the input shaft (length), the bolt pattern (how many bolts/what design) and also if any of the electronic plugs are different. (Electronic speedo vs mechanical for example.) Good luck.
