top speed gt40

In the actual race they were hitting 240-45 so i'd say its somewhere around 250
250 mph? The gt40? Seriously? I haven't seen those numbers anywhere, but with a little digging I found... The MkIV reached ~220mph and averaged 135.48 when it ran in Le Mans The new Ford GT is limited to 212mph, but I'd assume a race prep'ed GT with no limiter could approach the speeds mentioned above?
The GT40 racer of the past i dont think would have ever reached 200mph... the biggest reason was the tires... In a race like lemans you couldnt afford to make the extra pit stops for the tires... i believe they limited them to about 185-190mph simply to conserve the tires... The other thing that would be a limiting factor was thier gearing... Im sure if you put a T56 box on one now and a set of serious tires you would see 225mph if you were nuts enough to risk killing off one of the worlds most historic race cars... The 05-06 Ford GT was indeed limited to 212 and limiter off it would hit 223mph The Ford GT runs into its potential barrier at about 220 and the last 3mph are very difficult to get... The car made a clean 1000 revs in final gear getting the last 3mph due to wind resistance... Impressive gains have been made with revised front facia, side aero skirting, and a revised hood... however all of these are mods that in my opinion make the car worse overall... Its a legend and should be kept that way...
The MkII version of the GT40 had a top speed of between 205 and 207. http://www.gt40spf.com/gt40-specifications.aspx
