no, reason being i think there is a filter but its internal and cant be changed. just do a drain and fill on trans every 30k and u should be fine. i believe its like 3.5qts.

yes, the filter is inside the transmission and needs to be disassembled on a bench to change. stupid design...

Does this need to be done every 30,000 miles too or can you just change the fluid and forget about the filter or will it clog up?

just a fluid change is fine. It would cost like $1200 to replace the filter...

There is no filter on 1999, 2000, or 2001 Honda AT's period, they only have the grids like all transmissions. 2002 started a serviceable external AT filter. Warning - Highly debated topic of bad transmissions and many cars in this period on 3rd trannies. Once a year - Highly recommend 1 single drain and refill of 3 qts Honda spec ATF. If this has not been done then a full service flush and fill as follows: Since the trans holds almost 7 qts, a drain and fill 3 cycles @ 2.7 qts each, with some drive time in-between. Dealers usually only do 2 cycles. Its a dilution game!! Go online and get 10 gts for $6 each otherwise you will be on the hook for $10/qt or 100 bucks. Some put external filters between the trans and the front AT cooler and report longer transmission health.

I have a 2001 and as stated clearly above it does not have a external serviceable transmission filter as it should along with many other modifications that can be done to the transmission to prevent the "Honda Tranny Time Bomb". External filter, tranny cooler, and torque converter main body valve modification are all excellent countermeasures. Never tow with this transmission as well unless you have materially modified it.

The 2000 Honda Odyssey Transmission is a B7TA. This transmission has an inline filter located under the driver side of radiator. The Honda dealer want $75.00 for it. For about $20.00 you can get one on Ebay. It is a 3/8 line.
