egr valve causing 'check engine' light on?

Asked by SKoch Feb 14, 2010 at 08:55 PM about the 1999 Honda Passport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 99 Passport has check engine light on.  I was told it could be the egr valve.  I replaced the valve, the light went off for 12 miles.  Any ideas?  Does this egr valve have anything to do with the check engine light?

go to an autoparts store or a shop and have them scan your vehicle with an obd (on board diagnostic) scanner. this should be FREE, so don't let anyone try to charge you for it. your car has an obd-II system and the code scanner will tell you why your light is on, it could be from a faulty sensor or something more serious like an egr (exhaust gas recirculation) valve problem.
