What oil grade do I use for Q7 4.2 tdi 2009 model?

I would read your owners manual. Typically diesels use 15W-40 diesel motor oil but you drive an Audi which might be different. The oil cap may say what oil to use.

Thanks, I found out that I need spec VW 505 00 or 505 01, (not mentioning viscosity) and 507 01 only if I have particulate filter fitted... What is a particulate filter and how do I check if I have one fitted. Manual does not mention.
